On 10th November 2019, Mythili Hazarika,  the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) was the master of the ceremony  for the“Second Professor Deepali Dutta Memorial oration” organised by the Department of Psychiatry, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.Honorable orator Professor Ranjit Kumar dev Goswami delivered  his talk  on “The subject in question, a series of general observations on the fate of the Self down the ages”.

Positive Parenting

On November 3rd 2019,  The President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), Mythili Hazarika was invited as the distinguished speaker on a theme titled  ‘Positive Parenting ‘ organised by Holy Heart English Medium school. The organisers deserve applause for such a theme for the parents of early years of education (3-7 yrs old) to generate awareness, early identification of behaviour and emotional issues and intervention, if required. The pertinent questions raised by the parents were addressed.

Manthan

The true spirit of Diwali is to share the light and warmth of the common people. So, on Dhanteras with the 14 Luit fellows and Mythili Hazarika, the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) as a guest speaker is a unique experience worth sharing. The fellows scoring more than 90% in class Xth board exams are selected by “Manthan” through a four step process from economically disadvantaged families of rural or peri-urban areas. They have the potential and a keen desire to be fine professionals and give back to the community.
“Manthan” had invited Mythili Hazarika to address the various psychosocial risks and vulnerabilities of adolescence and how to build their resilience to reach their goals.
The fellows could be followed at http://www.facebook.com/luitfellows. It was quite an insight about various activities that are being done by different NGO’s in Assam across different sections of the society.

Inclusive education: Issues and Challenges

On 20th Oct 2019, Mythili Hazarika, the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) was a guest speaker in the brain storming session on ‘Inclusive education:Issues and challenges’ along with Mr Kauser Hilaly the commissioner of persons with disability in the national conference by Early childhood development forum at NEDFI House. The committee was quite meticulous in choosing the topics of relevance and very well organised under the able leadership of founder chairperson of ECDF Dr Vasavvi Acharjya.

 

Talk show on a sensitive issue

On October 16th 2019, a talk show for a special program was organised on a very sensitive issue of a girl child’s agony after the loss of her mother. The emotional turmoil and the tug of war between her maternal grandparents/aunts and her biological father had to be discussed from a psychological perspective. The President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), Mythili Hazarika had her stance as a mental health professional to prevail the child’s right at all times with focus on her mental stability and not to exaggerate such personal issues in public forum. Insight was facilitated about the huge impact of such shows on her mental status so as to address such issues therapeutically keeping in mind the child’s life in the long run.

29th Annual Conference of IPS

World mental health day

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4030On world mental health day (10 October), the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), Mythili Hazarika spoke on the theme of “suicide prevention” in the television. She highlighted on the value of 40 seconds in saving a person’s life. If one can take out 40 seconds from their schedule in talking about oneself and also listening to others then a precious life could be saved.

In CEZIPS (Conference by Eastern Zone of Indian Psychiatric Society, 20-22 Sep 2019) at Port Blair, Andamans in the symposium titled ‘Psychotherapy in the 21st century’ the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), Mythili Hazarika was invited as faculty guest speaker on “Virtual reality therapy and avatar therapy”.
