Mythili Hazarika, the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), as a panelist with few eminent others on the Children’s Day, shared and discussed various perspectives of child sexual abuse in a public forum among the youth at Cotton University, Guwahati. uTSAH, UNICEF, and NSS unit of Cotton University deserve applause for taking up this always unaddressed issue in the community in a pragmatic manner. The programme ended with a signature campaign and a commitment to do a project for a year by Cotton University.

Professor Deepali Dutta Memorial Oration

The memoir to commemorate the Professor Deepali Dutta Memorial Oration, edited by Suresh Chakravarty and Shyamanta Das, the Editor-in-Chief of the Open Journal of Psychiatry & Allied Sciences (OJPAS®) and published by the Department of Psychiatry, Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati is released during the oration delivered by Prof. Punyadhar Das on “Existentialism and Logotherapy” at the Academic Hall of GMCH.

Parenting stress

The President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), Mythili Hazarika spoke on “Patenting stress: implication and management” in the programme on ‘Parenting and stress management’ at the Academic Hall of Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati, organised by the Lady Doctors’ Association of GMCH, Sanjibani Sangha.

Brain and skin

Titled “Brain and skin”, this fortnight’s Mind Matters column of the Editor-in-Chief of the Open Journal of Psychiatry & Allied Sciences (OJPAS®), Shyamanta Das in the Horizon, the supplement with The Assam Tribune discusses the original research paper, “Psychosomatic interface: psychological distress and perceived stress in psoriasis patients in a tertiary care hospital in South India” by Keya Das and TS Sathayanarayana Rao, published in the current issue (July-December 2018, Volume 9 Issue 2) of OJPAs®.

ESSAH

ESSAH is a centre for development of special children. It is started by the mothers of the special children which is the first such unique approach in Guwahati. They have taken a vocational and skills-based approach for the rehabilitation. Mythili Hazarika, the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) gave them knowledge on disability certification, various approaches to address the children issues and parental stress.
