Dr. Bornali Das, the Secretary of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) had ‘Record of Achievement’ for ‘COVID-19: Operational Planning Guidelines and COVID-19 Partners Platform to support country preparedness and response’ from the World Health Organization’s HEALTH EMERGENCIES programme.

State Tobacco Cessation Cell

18th February

The President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), Mythili Hazarika was invited as a resource person to talk on ‘ Addiction, quitting and cessation techniques of tobacco use disorder’ organised by the State tobacco cessation cell of National tobacco control program at Grand Bhabendraloy on the 18th February 2020  to train the district coordinators, NCD, psychologists and DMHP for implementation of District Tobacco Control Programme.There were around 30 participants and the interaction was quite stimulating.

Sensitization talk on LGBTQA

Bornali Das, the Secretary of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) delivered a sensitisation talk on “conforming and non-confirming roles of LGBTQA” amongst the students and teachers of Bal Bharati School, Guwahati, along with Milin Dutta and Mayuri Deka.

Keynote speaker

Mythili Hazarika, the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) was the keynote speaker at the premier Assam Engineering College in the Faculty Development programme organised by the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering in association with Multi-skilling and Sustainability Centre. She spoke on “From the womb and beyond: the bio-psycho-social perspectives in mental health”.

The President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), Mythili Hazarika was with the Principal of Assam Engineering College, Dr Atul Bora and HOD Dr Dinesh Pegu of Electronics and Telecommunication during the inaugural function, and delivered the inaugural speech at Assam Engineering College in the Faculty Development Programme organised by the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering in association with Multi-skilling and Sustainability Centre.

Alcoholic Anonymous

Bornali Das, the Secretary of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) was invited as Chief Guest to a Seminar by Alcoholic Anonymous (AA), “Impact of alcohol use disorders in families of addiction” in Guwahati. AA is an international mutual aid fellowship with the stated purpose of enabling its members to “stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety”. AA is nonprofessional, self-supporting, and apolitical.

Out of the closet

The symposium, “Out of the closet: challenges of the LGBT in clinics and community”, conceptualised by Mythili Hazarika, the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), is presented by Nilofar Rahman, Rajvardhan Narayan, and Shyamanta Das, the Editor-in-Chief of the Open Journal of Psychiatry & Allied Sciences (OJPAS®) in the 72nd Annual National Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS 2020) at Kolkata.

Training Program on Adolescent Education in NERIE

On 20th November 2019, North East Regional lnstitute of Education (NERIE) Umiam, a constituent unit of NCERT, New Delhi had invited Mythili Hazarika, the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL) as the resource person in their  training program on Adolescent Education on: “Prevention and Management of Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDs amongst adolescents”. There were 48 teachers  from various schools in Meghalaya.

Pyschosocial Issues and Management of Adolescence

On 14th November 2019,  the President of the Society for Mental Health in LAMIC (SoMHiL), Mythili Hazarika was a guest speaker on psychosocial issues and management of adolescence with a group of college teachers/professors was a fruitful and enriching experience because of the discussions that followed post presentation. It was a program for faculty development.
